CALTRANS District 11 Headquarters

San Diego

A government office; a corporate campus; a sustainable example

The New State Highway and Transportation Headquarter consolidates existing functions and provides accommodation for current and future growth. The 11-acre site is located at the northern perimeter of the old town. The design for the State Building Project responds to three distinctive objectives including: respect for the community’s context and the site surroundings, accommodation for Department’s programmatic and public needs, and commitment to provide an elegant, sustainable and efficient solution for the City and the State. The project integrates planning and design goals with sustainability goals. Weaving sustainability strategies into what is essentially a governmental campus, the project is 16% below the state’s requirements for energy efficiency and it meets the standards for Silver LEED™ Rating.
