UC Berkeley People’s Park Housing (Home | People’s Park Housing) is transforming the historic People’s Park into a vibrant, mixed-use space that addresses the urgent need for student and supportive housing while preserving its cultural significance and open space. This innovative redevelopment will provide housing for more than 1,100 undergraduate students and over 100 unhoused or extremely low-income individuals, while preserving over 60% of the site as public green space.
In collaboration with the City of Berkeley and local organizations, the university has implemented a comprehensive plan to support current park residents, including interim housing with wraparound services, a new community-led daytime drop-in center, a permanent 24-hour public restroom in the Telegraph neighborhood, and ongoing social work support.
Clark Pacific is contributing to this meaningful project with the manufacture and installation of 47,807 square feet of Architectural Precast Concrete (APC) across 1,105 individual pieces. The facade features a two-color mix of wall panels with 1,140 square feet of detailed form liner on Level 1 and semi-rigid board insulation for thermal performance. The scope also includes bird wire deterrents on slab edge covers, sunshade panels, and soffit panels to enhance building durability and design integrity.
In addition, 350 panels are being shipped FOB to Las Vegas for integration with another trade’s metal panel system, demonstrating the project’s collaborative, multi-system construction approach.
