The Village at Santa Monica is an urban mix of 318 luxury condominiums and affordable rental apartments, 20,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, and walkable plazas and gardens. 52,000 sq ft of Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) punched walls with window and door openings clad this mixed-income and mixed-use development in the heart of downtown Santa Monica, CA.
GFRC was the perfect option for designers to incorporate vertical and horizontal rib patterns near the windows, giving the building a textured look reminiscent of the nearby ocean. Large wind loads also made precast concrete the material of choice due to the location of the building being blocks from the Pacific Ocean.
