Building a low carbon structure is more than selecting the right material and optimizing it. The way we build today has been shaped by decades of optimization centered around only one driver, price.
When looking at embodied carbon, we often look at optimizing the materials we use, but not the way we use them. Optimizations in mix design and recycled content help considerably but they can only take you so far. To truly change our carbon trajectory, we need to rethink our approach and designs.
Watch this 30 minute spotlight where we discuss a strategy for reducing embodied carbon in structures. Concepts are generally applicable to any structure however we will be using examples from the NetZERO Building Platform to demonstrate how we can dramatically lower the embodied carbon of a structure.
